This Is Saving Yourself

I met this guy on a dating app a few years back. We talked on and off for a year, not romantically, but I'd also be lying if I said we were just friends.

I wasn't looking for anything in particular when I matched with him, and honestly, I wasn't even in the headspace to be dating.

But as it turns out, he happened to be both everything I'd want in a partner and everything I could ask for in a friend.

The problem was he couldn't give me what I needed him to. I knew something beneath the surface made him scared to get close.

In one of our conversations, he mentioned some stuff that happened with his mama when he was younger. He touched on how he thought that's why he struggled to let people in.
